Passwords are not secure – they must be eliminated or supported by additional means of strong authentication. From phishing attacks that relay OTP codes, to social engineering tactics that reveal targeted employees’ credentials – compromised passwords are the mostly commonly used attack vector.​

The FIDO (Fast Identity Online) Alliance, who’s members include Google, Microsoft, Apple, Mozilla, MasterCard, Visa and PayPal, have defined a secure and universally supported standard that has been adopted by W3C for WebAthn.​
